Hello everyone! 2022 is just around the corner. I’d like to extend my New Year greetings to you all from Beijing!

Looking back on this past year, we see that it has been truly momentous. We have personally witnessed major events of milestone significance in the history of the Party and the country. As the historical convergence of the “Two Centenary Goals” draws near, we have embarked on a new journey toward fully building a modern socialist country and are marching forward with high spirits on the path to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

From the beginning to the end of the year, farms, enterprises, communities, schools, hospitals, military camps, research institutes—every corner of the country has been bustling with activity. Throughout the year, we have worked hard, made selfless contributions, and reaped abundant rewards. In the fleeting passage of time, the China we have seen and come to appreciate is one of unwavering resilience and vibrant prosperity. It is a China inhabited by a people who are both endearing and admirable, marked by relentless progress and driven by a legacy of enduring, ever-evolving undertakings.

On July 1, we solemnly celebrated the centenary of the founding of the Communist Party of China. Standing atop the Tiananmen Gate Tower, we are deeply moved by the tumultuous course of history: under the leadership of the CPC, the Chinese people—numbering in the hundreds of millions—have persevered through countless hardships and remained steadfast in their resolve, thus forging the magnificent legacy of a century-old party. Only by staying true to our original aspiration can we see things through to the end. It is only by pressing forward with unwavering determination and pursuing our goals with unrelenting diligence that we can live up to the expectations of history, the demands of our times, and the trust of the people.

The Sixth Plenary Session of the 19th CPC Central Committee adopted the Party’s third historical resolution. The achievements of the past century are inspiring, and the experiences of the past century offer profound enlightenment. I have previously referred to the “cave-dwelling dialogue” between Chairman Mao and Mr. Huang Yanpei: only by courageously engaging in self-revolution can we take the initiative in history. The great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation will by no means be achieved through mere ease and fanfare, nor will it be a smooth, straight path that can be reached overnight. We must always keep a long-term vision, remain vigilant in times of peace, maintain strategic composure and patience, and strive to achieve both broad aspirations and meticulous attention to detail.

The greatness of a major country also entails great responsibility. When we look at the myriad issues at hand, we ultimately find that they all boil down to the concerns of countless families. During my field visits to various localities, I gathered extensive first-hand information and gained valuable insights. Whenever I visited a household, I would invariably ask what difficulties they were still facing; I always kept the words of our fellow villagers close to my heart.

Whatever the people worry about, we must keep it at heart; whatever the people hope for, we must act on it. I myself come from a rural background and have firsthand experience of poverty. Thanks to the sustained efforts of successive generations, those who were once mired in poverty can now eat their fill, dress warmly, have access to education, own a home, and enjoy basic medical insurance. Achieving moderate prosperity in all respects and eradicating poverty are both a solemn commitment our Party has made to the Chinese people and a significant contribution to the world. To ensure that everyone enjoys a better life, we cannot rest on our laurels; there is still a long way to go.

The peaceful flow of the Yellow River has been the millennia-long aspiration of the Chinese people. In recent years, I have traveled throughout the nine provinces and autonomous regions along the upper, middle, and lower reaches of the Yellow River. Whether it is the Yellow River and the Yangtze River—both hailed as “mother rivers”—or the shimmering Qinghai Lake and the meandering, majestic Yarlung Zangbo River; whether it is the monumental South-to-North Water Diversion Project or the “green map” of the Saihanba Forest Farm; whether it is the northward migration and subsequent return of the Yunnan elephants or the breeding and seasonal migrations of the Tibetan antelope—each of these vividly demonstrates that as long as we cherish and protect our green mountains, they will in turn reward us with their bounty.

This year has also been marked by countless unforgettable Chinese voices, Chinese moments, and Chinese stories. There was the youthful pledge—“Rest assured, Party; a strong nation depends on me”—and the heartfelt declaration—“Pure love, for China alone.” There was the “Zhurong” rover exploring Mars, the “Xihe” satellite chasing the sun, and the “Tianhe” space station soaring among the stars. Athletes competed with passion and determination, striving to be the best. Across the country, epidemic prevention and control were carried out with unwavering resolve and effectiveness. Disaster-affected communities stood in solidarity, helping one another rebuild their homes. PLA officers and soldiers, along with armed police personnel, remained steadfast in their commitment to strengthening the military and safeguarding the nation. Countless ordinary heroes have worked tirelessly and fought bravely, together forming the mighty tide of vigorous progress in China in the new era.

The motherland has always been deeply concerned about the prosperity and stability of Hong Kong and Macao. Only through concerted efforts and united action can the “one country, two systems” principle be implemented in a steady and sustainable manner. Achieving the complete reunification of the motherland is the shared aspiration of compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait. We sincerely hope that all sons and daughters of the Chinese nation will join hands and move forward together to create a bright future for the Chinese nation.

During my telephone and video conversations with foreign leaders and heads of international organizations, they repeatedly commended China’s epidemic response and its contributions to global pandemic control. To date, China has provided a total of 2 billion doses of COVID-19 vaccines to more than 120 countries and international organizations. Only by standing together in the face of adversity and working in solidarity can countries around the world write a new chapter in building a community with a shared future for mankind.

In just over a month, the Beijing Winter Olympics and Paralympics will open. Enabling more people to take part in winter sports is precisely at the heart of the Olympic Movement. We are committed to delivering a truly outstanding Olympic Games to the world. The world is looking to China, and China is fully prepared.

The New Year’s bells are about to ring. Our three astronauts are on a “business trip” in the vast expanse of space, while our compatriots overseas continue to work diligently. Embassy and consulate staff, personnel from Chinese-funded enterprises, and the vast community of international students remain steadfast and courageous in their posts, and countless dream-chasers are still striving and dedicating themselves. Thank you all for your hard work—I extend to you my heartfelt New Year greetings!

Let us march into the future together! Wishing our nation peace and prosperity!
