On the afternoon of May 12, General Secretary Xi Jinping, who was on an inspection tour in Nanyang City, Henan Province, visited the Temple of the Medical Sage and Nanyang Yaoyibao Artemisia Argyi Products Co., Ltd., where he learned about the development of traditional Chinese medicine and the growth of the artemisia product industry. General Secretary Xi stated that for thousands of years, the Chinese nation has relied on TCM to treat illnesses and save lives. In particular, following our fight against major infectious diseases such as COVID-19 and SARS, our understanding of the role of TCM has deepened. We must develop TCM, emphasize the use of modern science to elucidate its underlying principles, and pursue a path of integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine.
Throughout the long and storied history of Chinese civilization, traditional Chinese medicine, a cultural treasure with a history spanning thousands of years, has played an irreplaceable role in the prosperity, development, and enduring continuity of Chinese civilization. Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the Party Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core has attached great importance to the work related to traditional Chinese medicine, issuing a series of decisions and arrangements and conducting numerous on-site inspections, thereby charting the course for the inheritance, innovation, and development of TCM.
