Studying and Implementing the Spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s Important Instructions and Directives: Further Study and Deployment of Epidemic Prevention and Control and Treatment Work in the Traditional Chinese Medicine System
On January 25, the Leading Group for COVID-19 Prevention and Control under the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine convened its 45th meeting to thoroughly study and implement the important instructions and directives of General Secretary Xi Jinping on epidemic prevention and control, the significant instructions of Premier Li Keqiang, and the deployment requirements of Vice Premier Sun Chunlan, with a view to further carrying out the decisions and arrangements of the Party Central Committee and the State Council and to further identify and address weak links in the TCM system’s prevention, control, and treatment efforts.

The meeting began by studying and conveying the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important instructions and directives, Premier Li Keqiang’s important instructions, and Vice Premier Sun Chunlan’s deployment requirements, and heard briefings from the various working groups under the Bureau’s Leading Group for COVID-19 Prevention and Control on their recent work. The meeting conducted an in-depth assessment of the national epidemic prevention and control situation. Recently, clustered outbreaks have emerged in multiple regions, and the early and comprehensive involvement of traditional Chinese medicine has demonstrated its advantages and played a significant role in epidemic control. However, certain TCM medical institutions have also revealed serious problems, such as inadequate preventive measures and nosocomial infections, which warrant close attention. These issues highlight shortcomings and weaknesses in the TCM system’s prevention, control, and treatment efforts, and must be taken very seriously.
The meeting emphasized that the traditional Chinese medicine system must further enhance its ideological awareness, resolutely implement the important instructions and directives of General Secretary Xi Jinping, regard epidemic prevention and control as a political responsibility and the top priority, and ensure the thorough implementation of the decisions and arrangements made by the Party Central Committee and the State Council. First, it is necessary to Enhance awareness of the severity, complexity, and urgency of the current epidemic prevention and control situation; attach great importance to infection control in TCM medical institutions; in light of recently identified issues, strengthen guidance and supervision; and make specific arrangements for local authorities to conduct thorough self-inspections and rectifications, drawing broader lessons from individual cases and taking proactive measures to prevent problems before they arise. Second, it is necessary to Strengthen guidance and deployment for addressing weak links in epidemic prevention and control at grassroots TCM medical institutions, particularly in rural areas, to bridge capacity gaps, enhance their ability to participate in prevention, control, and treatment, and improve overall response capabilities. Three Essentials Further promote the involvement of traditional Chinese medicine in emergency response efforts, conscientiously implement the requirements for further refining clinical treatment protocols and upholding the integration of traditional Chinese and Western medicine, steadfastly carry out the decisions and arrangements of the Party Central Committee and the State Council, and, in accordance with the instructions and requirements of Vice Premier Sun Chunlan, advance the deep and comprehensive participation of traditional Chinese medicine.
