[Traditional Chinese Medicine in Fighting the Epidemic] Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine Treatment: The First Batch of 12 COVID-19 Patients in Hebei Province Recovered and Discharged

On the afternoon of January 14, the first batch of 12 confirmed COVID-19 patients at Hebei Provincial Chest Hospital were cured and discharged, marking the first group of patients to be released from treatment in Hebei during this wave of the epidemic. In addition, another 18 asymptomatic cases were released from centralized medical observation and have all entered the recovery phase.

According to the briefing, the treatment team has adopted a “three-tier expert consultation” system: national-level experts provide on-site guidance at the front lines; provincial-level experts lead teams in participating in patient care; and hospital-based experts conduct routine consultations, working side by side with frontline staff in isolation wards to jointly treat patients. In terms of treatment approaches, based on the severity of each case and the specific needs of different patient groups, the principle of “one individual, one tailored plan; one individual, one dedicated expert; one individual, one dedicated team” is strictly adhered to. Emphasis is placed on the management of critically ill patients, with integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine practices and the combined use of both types of medications. A joint consultation and ward-round mechanism involving both TCM and Western medicine has been established, while psychological support is provided to both patients and healthcare personnel. Continuous, round-the-clock monitoring and assessment of patients’ conditions ensure that treatment plans are scientific, precise, and effective.

All discharged patients met the discharge criteria stipulated in the National COVID-19 Diagnosis and Treatment Protocol (Trial Version 8), were approved for discharge following review by national and provincial experts, and were then transferred to the rehabilitation phase.
