[Third Anniversary of the Promulgation and Implementation of the Traditional Chinese Medicine Law] Henan and Guizhou Launch Public Awareness Campaigns on the TCM Law

July 1 this year marks the third anniversary of the official implementation of the Traditional Chinese Medicine Law of the People’s Republic of China. Recently, local authorities across the country have actively launched initiatives to implement and enforce the law. Let’s take a look!

Henan Launches Traditional Chinese Medicine Law Publicity Month

Recently, Henan Province launched the “Traditional Chinese Medicine Law Publicity Month” campaign.

Henan Province has explicitly mandated that all localities organize and carry out centralized publicity campaigns. Starting July 1, posters will be posted in bulletin boards at government offices, institutions, schools, communities, and other venues, and electronic posters will be displayed on scrolling screens, with the aim of actively promoting the Traditional Chinese Medicine Law to the general public.

At the same time, all localities are required to earnestly implement and enforce the Law on Traditional Chinese Medicine, conduct timely reviews and summaries of implementation progress, and further strengthen the enforcement of the Law and its supporting regulatory framework. In light of the legal safeguards highlighted by TCM’s role in COVID-19 prevention and control, efforts should be accelerated to formulate or revise local regulations on TCM, and exemplary practices and effective measures from across the country should be promptly publicized and shared.

Zhang Zhimin, Deputy Director of the Henan Provincial Health Commission, stated that since the implementation of the Law on Traditional Chinese Medicine, Henan has strengthened awareness of TCM–Western medicine collaboration in public health emergencies, improved relevant working mechanisms, and enhanced routine reserves of personnel, finances, and materials. The province has adhered to a principle of being prepared for both wartime and peacetime, integrating peacetime and wartime responses, and leveraging the vital role of TCM in the emergency response system for public health emergencies in a lawful, scientific, orderly, and effective manner.

Going forward, Henan Province will thoroughly implement the Law on Traditional Chinese Medicine, continuously strengthen TCM-based prevention and control of major epidemics, and integrate the collaborative mechanism between TCM and Western medicine into routine operational frameworks. The province will also carry out comprehensive public education on the Law on Traditional Chinese Medicine, ensuring that all TCM-related work is conducted in strict accordance with the law. It will earnestly study, rigorously abide by, and strictly enforce the law, and administer affairs in accordance with the law. In responding to public health emergencies, Henan will fully leverage the unique strengths of TCM, accelerate the infrastructure development of TCM hospitals and TCM departments in general hospitals, further enhance reserves of TCM emergency supplies and talent, comprehensively improve the emergency response and treatment capabilities of TCM hospitals, strengthen the development of a specialized TCM workforce, and build a high-caliber team dedicated to the prevention and control of TCM-related infectious diseases.
